About Event Management :
You may have seen the recent Femina Miss India or Filmfare Awards on
TV. Such events are entirely managed by what is called the event management companies. Now-a-days,
events have become a regular feature in urban India. Large and small-scale events are held nearly every
day in cities across the country. These range from marriages and birthday parties to corporate launches
and celebrity shows.
Any event requires a serious amount of planning. Pre-event activities include handling of logistics, co-ordinating
with celebrities, organising media coverage, foods and beverages, booking venues, branding
exercises, obtaining sponsorships etc. there's the enormous responsibility of executing the
actual event, minus glitches, and successfully so. All these require professional handling and here's
where an event management company takes the centre stage.
Today, the event management industry in India is worth thousands of crores, with over 200 companies
offering their services in various spheres. This has generated plenty of employment opportunities for
those seeking a career in this dynamic and challenging arena.
Event management is a mix of creativity, management and technical skills. To organise a good event,
one has to learn the skills. For a long time, there was no formalised training / education available for the
budding event managers. People first joined an event management company and then they were given
hands-on training. For the event companies, there were obvious disadvantages in this. First, there was
the cost involved in training an employee, then, there was the danger of losing trained personnel to the
competition.
To cater to the needs of the event management industry, the National Institute of Event Management
(NIEM) was set up in April 2000. NIEM was initiated with the focus of giving event management its due
recognition as a professional discipline. The Limca Book of Records has declared NIEM as 'Asia's First
and Best Events Institute’. It has entered into tie-ups with reputed bodies like CII, EMAI, FICCI and the
Ad Club. It is also the only institution in the country to be recognised by the International Special Events
Society (ISES) and the International Festival and Events Association (IFEA). It is today, recognised
amongst prime personalities of the Indian media industry, including Bharat Dabholkar, Munnish Puri,
Mohmad Moorani. It is today, the leading provider of education / training in this particular domain.
NIEM has now tied up with GurukulOnline Learning Solutionsâ„¢ (GOLS), pioneer and the leader in
